"If the LORD had not..." ⏤ Vol. 1 Chap. 35

"If the LORD had not been my help,

My soul would soon have dwelt
in the abode of Silence.

If I should say, "My foot has slipped,"
Thy lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up.

When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Thy consolations delight my soul,"

Psalm 94:17-19

How many times You have rescued me O LORD? I am unable to count.
My soul listens to this Psalm and cries out, "Thank You LORD."

Have you ever had the LORD help you?

Often we become so accustomed to being rescued by the Great God who IS we forget to thank Him for all He has done.

I cannot assume to know the depth of desertion, dangerous escapes, or deep depression this verse represents in this particular 94th Psalm. I can only know my own.

Desertion hit me when my husband of thirteen years left me and our three children, to marry another woman. Dangerous escapes filled me when we had no food to eat. Yes, we truly had no food to eat. And many more escapes from car troubles, to siding falling off the house, to fences blowing down.
And even deep depression nipped at my heels.

And these are just a few of the trials that God saw me through.

I cried out, "I am slipping!" but His faithful unfailing love supported me, thus supporting my children. I would enter my bedroom closet, and cry buckets of tears.

"I don't know how to raise these three children, God."
"I don't know how to pay this electricity bill this month, LORD. Where will I get the money?"
"I don't know how I can finish this paper due on Monday."
These and other cries up to the God Most High came from a little house in a little town in Texas.

Three small children always seemed to have a need. University professors often had no regard of their 200 students sitting in the auditorium seats. It was not their concern the hurdles that needed to be jumped to get the work done. Nor should it. I had made the decision to get a degree as a single mother, with no family close, and not many friends to help. In those years there were so few single parents that made the hard decision to return or go to University, precedence had been set.

And yet, God saw us through it all.

While speaking with my daughter yesterday, now 36 years old, married, with a precious child and a chiropractic practice,  we did a little reminiscing. Tears welled in my eyes as my daughter testified.

"Mom, it wasn't easy, but it was good!"

And thus says the Word of God,
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." Romans 8:28 NLT

May I remember to thank God for his help in times of trouble.
May I remember to thank God when the going gets tough.
May I remember to thank God for joys in the morning, flowers, coffee, the kiss of bearded lips.
May I remember to thank God for his lovingkindness that fills my home and my heart.
May I remember to thank God for bringing me through those highs and those lows.
With JOY in my heart.
Because He did! He is! and He will!

Thank you for coming.
