In just a few days the United States will observe our yearly Gratitude celebration. Thanksgiving is a pretty big deal in our country. This is the day people gather with family and remember all of the blessings that have happened over the year. We used to gather over Turkey and Dressing only. Some still hold to this tradition while others are introducing tofu and other meats and vegetables on the table. There are gluten-free-everything dishes bouncing around on Social Media. The topic of conversation among many is who is coming for dinner and what are they bringing to share. This time of Thanksgiving is looked at as one day of splurge. There is gravy to eat, pudding to indulge in. There are pies, and cakes, and desserts. It is a FEAST! And splurging is looked forward to. Yes, splurging is nice, but it doesn't build us into healthy people. Think about just the preparations alone - YIKES! It would not only be hard physically, but not healthy for us either. Instead, we must eat a correct amount of healthy food daily for growth, maintenance, and well-being. ![]() Our Soul Health is the same. God tells us how important it is to nourish our spirit on a daily basis. But how do we do that? First we start as babes: 1 Peter 2:1,2 NASB "Therefore putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation." Sunday Morning Church and Retreats, even small group gatherings are the beginnings of feeding our souls. They are the milk. The time where we eat the Bible's Words with others and celebrate our God. But they are not the daily healthy eating that we need to survive in this world and be healthy spiritually. We find these words in Hebrews. They might cut into us and feel like they are harsh, but these words are a bit of the good healthy diet we need to grow in the LORD. Hebrews 5:11-14 NLT A Call to Spiritual Growth 11. There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don't seem to listen. 12. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn't know how to do what is right. 14. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong. Bible study comes in all shapes and sizes. But doing it is the real trial. It is also the real reward. You can delve into a word study, a topical study, a book study. But study means reading and contemplating and questioning and learning. And while we are doing that we are really eating the healthy food from the Word of God. Study of the Word of God fills us to the brim with good things. Here is one of the wonderful promises that God makes when we are obedient to Him! For it was I, the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things. Psalm 81:10 NLT This sounds wonderful. And when we read in context we find out how we can be fed these good things. But how can we know this if we don't get into the Word and really read it? In honor of our harvest seasons, let's get healthy eating from the very good Father's words. We need to be healthy. We need to eat daily. We need to savor the Word of God. It might take a little exercise in regular personal Bible study. But it is what we need. For our health. For our own well-being. For our soul strength. ![]() Come and Join Us in Reading the Word Daily Eating His Words for our Spiritual Health Because He IS the I AM, i am
