Lights are lit.
Mom's not here.
Dad's not either.
Kids building their own family traditions --
blessed they love us so.
Friends from ages ago
Cards are gathering, stacked and displayed.
Nativity scene is placed.
Tree speaks of decades of memories.
Rain and cold and sometimes snow.
Just like King David and Abraham of olden days,
we bring our love and our lives - what He wants.
They were too early in time to lay down gold, or incense, or myrh.
We, also, are too late for the birth to adore.
We join these spiritual giants as best as we can
to give what He wants, who we are, and what we have.
And we know He receives us as broken and bruised
and in return He completes us into whole and healed.
Being honest and open wasn't easy for David, wasn't fun for Abraham
But by giving our all we find rest in Him.
May we focus on this every day we live.
