1221.

The Births of Esau & Jacob

Today's Passage: Genesis 25: 19-26

Get to know your bible. It will become a good friend.

Or find the passage NASB version on Bible Gateway here.
You can search for other versions there as well. Versions even in foreign languages.

Or, for your convenience I have typed the verses below from the
New Living Testament (NLT).

2.
Invite God to join you in your reading and ask Him for wisdom.
If there is anything in your spirit hindering you, confess it now.
It is okay, He knows it anyway. Bring it to Him and ask Him for help, remember you are already forgiven, as Him to help you as you embrace that truth and live it out.

a prayer:
Thank You for meeting me, LORD.

I welcome you into this place.
Please prepare my heart Jehovah.
Thank you, Omnipotent God for insight.

From the Ancients - Lectio Divina
  • Ask God to open your heart and mind to what is written in the passage.
  • Read the passage
  • Re-read the passage looking for 3 words or phrases that really resonate in your heart.
  • Write those words down.
  • Re-read the passage. Of the 3 words which 1 resonates most in your heart?
    • Ask yourself what does this word mean in my life?
    • Where do I need change/growth/revelation?
  • Write this word down. Or, remember this word throughout your day.
  • Ask God to show you meaning from the passage.
  • We read, reflect, and communicate. Share with the community.
  • Don't forget to thank God for being with you during this endeavor to find intimacy with Him.

19. This is the account of the family of Isaac, the son of Abraham.
20. When Isaac was forty years old, he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Ramean.

21. Isaac pleaded with the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was unable to have children. The LORD answered Isaac's prayer, and Rebekah became pregnant with twins.
22. But the two children struggled with each other in her womb. So she went to ask the LORD about it. "Why is this happening to me?" she asked.

23. And the LORD told her, "The sons in your womb will become two nations. from the very beginning, the two nations will be rivals. One nation will be stronger than the other; and your older son will serve your younger son."

24. And when the time came to give birth, Rebekah discovered that she did indeed have twins!
25. The first one was very red at birth and covered with thick hair like a fur coat. So they named him Esau.
26. Then the other twin was born with his hand grasping Esau's heel. So they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when the twins were born.
Genesis 25:19-26 NLT
