Jesus and Zacchaeus

1.

Today's Passage: Luke 19:1-10

Get to know your bible. It will become a good friend.

Or find the passage NASB version on Bible Gateway here.
You can search for other versions there as well. Versions even in foreign languages.

Or, for your convenience I have typed the verses below from the
New Living Testament (NLT).

Dear Abba,
We open into Your WORDS.
Cleanse our hearts. Open our minds.
Lead us into your goodness.
In the sweet name Jehoshua.
Amen

1. Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town.
2. There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector
in the region, and he had become very rich.
3. He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd.
4. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road,
for Jesus was going to pass that way.

5. When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name.
"Zacchaeus!" he said. "Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today."

6. Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus
to his house in great excitement and joy.
7. But the people were displeased.
"He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner," they grumbled.

8. Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the LORD and said,
"I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord,
and if I have cheated people on their taxes,
I will give them back four times as much!"

9. Jesus responded, "Salvation has come to this home today, for this man
has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham.
10. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost."

Luke 19:1-10 NLT

17th strategy. Oh My, I see me.

  • Begin with asking God for guidance. Remember He is the author.
  • Are there one or more main characters, other than the Trinity, in the passage?
  • Re-read the passage and ask God to lead you to the one character this day He wants to reveal Himself through.
  • Write the character's name down.
  • List the characters personality traits, or characteristics.
  • Can you relate to any of the these personality traits or characteristics?
  • How does God relate to that person in this passage?
  • How does God relate to you?
  • Bring yourself into His presence. Do you need to confess? Do you need to thank? Remember His love is everlasting. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • Praise God for revelation and guidance.

3.

Thank you Father, Abba, El Shaddai, Holy One, Jehoshua.
In your name we come before your throne and say.
Thank you.
Amen

4.

Please leave your name and your last initial.
Share any comments and remember that we are growing together.
The great God who sees,  El Roi, is watching.
Such a joy to know we are pleasing Him by seeking His face.

Thank you for your presence.

And I will be back here tomorrow,
I hope I will see you here too.

Zacchaeus, the saved sinner, excited to see Jesus.
The displeased grumbling people, seemingly envious of this "wee little man".

Help me, Lord, to seek you, to be loving and giving, like you. Erase my jealous thoughts. Thank you for saving me and all who are lost. Amen

Thank you for sharing about the disgruntled people.
Makes me ponder even more.

Zacchaeus
When he is trying to get a good look at Jesus
and then Jesus tells him to come down, He's going to visit his home.

Reminds me of when I have worked so hard to do something to encourage one of my girls that I am mentoring to trust Jesus. Then, all of a sudden, Jesus stops and says - hey I'm coming over...
And He shows up in my living room to wrap both me and those around me up in love and acceptance.

I've been in that place willing and ready to get rid of all.
I would do it all again, if He asked me.
