A Discussion about the Sabbath
1.

Today's Passage: Matthew 12:1-8

Get to know your bible. It will become a good friend.

Or find the passage NASB version on Bible Gateway here.
You can search for other versions there as well. Versions even in foreign languages.

Or, for your convenience I have typed the verses below from the
New Living Testament (NLT).

1. At about the time Jesus was walking through some grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, so they began breaking off some heads of grain and eating them.
2. But some Pharisees saw them do it and protested, "Look, your disciples are breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath."

3. Jesus said to them, "Haven't you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
4. He went into the house of God, and he and his companions broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat.
5. And haven't you read in the law of Moses that the priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath?
6. I tell you, there is one here who is even greater than the Temple!
7. But you would not have condemned my innocent disciples if you knew the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.'
8. For the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!"

Matthew 12: 1-8 NLT

2.

Thank You for meeting me, LORD.
I welcome you into this place.
Please prepare my heart Jehovah.
Thank you for insight.

Reading... Simple Act of Meditation

Simple acts of meditation are not difficult.
If they were difficult God would not encourage every person to do them.
They are sometimes uncomfortable.
But they are always profitable.
They bring us closer to the heart of God. We are to Hide His Words In Our Hearts.

  • Take this time to read the passage one time through.
  • Then go back and read every verse separately.
  • After reading one verse just close your eyes and think about the words for a few seconds. When you are no longer considering the sweetness of God's word to you, move to the next verse.
  • Continue through the passage.
    • Loving HIM is the purpose.
    • Getting to know HIM is the purpose.
    • Allowing Him to take the day and use us in this day is the purpose.
    • Finding the sweetness He desires to impart is the joy.
  • Thank God for coming and bringing his Holy Presence into your day.

I hope I will see you here too.

Memories.
With Gramps, I walked through a field of grain and ate from the heads. He taught me how to rub the heads between my palms, blow away the chaff, and eat the grain. I wonder what day it was? Obviously, it mattered not. (No one was around to condem us.)
Gramps led by example. He practiced his faith through mercy and love.

Father, God, give me a heart of mercy, a sense of calm, a heart filled with love. Amen

Matthew 12:6-8, I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

You stretch me LORD. You stretch me in my world that I have created.
There are those tenets in my world that I put into practice. You are reshaping them.
Sabbath. I want it to be your day.
Thank you for the God Day you gave me. It refreshes me to spend hours of silent times with you.
And Your presence on this day brings wonder.
Enter my life this day for me to show mercy. Your mercy. The same mercy that brings me freedom.
