Pride speaks... Today's Passage: Job 32: 9 "Sometimes the elders are not wise. Sometimes the aged do not understand justice." 1. I encourage you to read both the entire chapter AND the chapter before and after in the book of Job. If you do not have your own bible with you, find the link to all three chapters here on Bible Gateway. 2. There is a lot to read here. But, Job is such an interesting person in the history of man with God. 3. Please take a moment to leave your first name and last initial. If you have said to Jesus, like Paul, 'I will not leave you,' because you love Him, you too are a bond servant of the LORD! If you ever come upon the words bond servant, verses 16-17 below defines that concept. Today's Passage: Deuteronomy 15:12-18 "12. If a fellow Hebrew sells himself or herself to be your servant and serves you for six years, in the seventh year you must set that servant free. 13 When you release a male servant, do not send him away empty-handed. 14 Give him a generous farewell gift from your flock, your threshing floor, and your winepress. Share with him some of the bounty with which the LORD your God has blessed you. 15. Remember that you were once slaves in the land of Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you! That is why I am giving you this command. 16. But suppose your servant says, 'I will not leave you,' because he loves you and your family, and he has done well with you. 17. In that case, take an awl and push it through his earlobe into the door. After that, he will be your servant for life. And do the same for your female servants. 18. You must not consider it a hardship when you release your servants. Remember that for six years they have given you services worth double the wages of hired workers, and the LORD your God will bless you in all you do." Deuteronomy 15 12-18 NLT *** 1. I encourage you to open your own bible to read the passage. - Familiarity brings comfort. Of course, if you don't have a bible with you, or a bible app on your phone, click here to read on Bible Gateway. (remember you can read from many different translations on Bible Gateway) 2. I encourage you to check out WORSHIP, the 2nd Strategy in the Reading & Reflecting Strategies page here. 3. Please your first name and last initial. Please comment as you feel led. I am being blessed by both your presence and the comments. 4. May I pray for you? Abba, we begin a new week today. Please go before us and remind us that You will never leave nor forsake us. Remind us that You are the beautiful LORD whom we serve out of love and not obligation, fear, or manipulation. Help us reach whom You desire us to reach today. And allow us to reach into our own hearts and see You move. I pray these things over this community in the blessed holy name of Yeshua, Amen. an aside/tip/interesting fact: "linguistically the name Yehoshua/Yeshua/Jesus conveys the idea that God (YHVH) delivers or saves (his people), eventually through his servant messiah. According to Matthew 1:21, "Yeshua" is the name God gave his Son. It is his original birth-name. "She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Yesous [Greek]/Yeshua[Hebrew], for it is he who will save his people from their sins." www.hebrewstreams.org Problems? "In my first book I told you, Theophilus, about everything that Jesus began to do and teach 2. until the day He was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit. 3. During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that He was actually alive. And He talked to them about the Kingdom of God. 4. Once when He was eating with them, he commanded them, "Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift He promised, as He told you before. 5. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. The Ascension of Jesus 6. So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, "LORD, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?" 7. He replied, "The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. 9. After saying this He was taken up into the cloud while they were watching and they could no longer see him. 10. As they strained to see Him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. 11. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go!" Matthias Replaces Judas 12. Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance of half a mile. 13. When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James). 14. They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus. 15. During this time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them. 16. "Brothers," he said, "the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who guided those who arrested Jesus. This was predicted long ago by the Holy Spirit speaking through King David. Judas was one of us and shared in the ministry with us." 18. (Judas had bought a field with the money he had received from his treachery. Falling headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all of his intestines. 19. The news of his death spread to all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means "Field of Blood.") 20. Peter continued, "This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says, "Let his home become desolate with no one living in it.' It also says, 'Let someone else take his position.' 21. "So now we must choose a replacement for Judas among the men who were with us the entire time we were traveling with the Lord Jesus– 22. from the time He was baptized by John until the day He was take from us. Whoever is chosen will join us as a witness of Jesus' resurrection." 23. So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24. Then they all prayed, "O, LORD, you know every heart. Show us which of these men you have chosen 25. as an apostle to replace Judas in this ministry, for he has deserted us and gone where he belongs." 26. Then they cast lots, and Matthias was selected to become an apostle with the other eleven." Acts 1 NLT 1. I again encourage you to read from your own Bible. familiarity-is-oh-so-nice or If you don't have your bible with you, click here for Bible Gateway. 2. I would encourage you to check out the reading strategy ideas in Reading/Reflecting Strategies click: here to give you some hints on how to read the word more thoughtfully. 3. You might want to re-read Acts 1 and ask yourself these questions - only as a suggestion: Who is the passage about? What is happening in this passage? Where is this passage taking place? When did I first read, or hear about the events that take place in this passage? 4. Please take a moment to leave your first name and last initial. 5. Don't feel that you need to answer these questions in the comments. They are simply a suggestion and for your meditation. Only if you have an 'aha' moment where God touches you through these questions, please share. We are blessed when God uses this simple act of faith. Problems? What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat: 2. What if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us? 3. They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. 4. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. 5. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives. 6. Praise the LORD, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! 7. We escaped like a bird from a hunter's trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! 8. Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth." Psalm 124 NLT A song of pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. "1. Those who trust in the LORD are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever. 2. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, both now and forever. 3. The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong. 4. O LORD, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you. 5. But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD. Take them away with those who do evil. May Israel have peace! Psalm 125 NLT 1. Read from your own Bible or Click here for Bible Gateway. 2. May I pray for you this morning? Abba, please open our hearts this morning as we come to read these Psalms. Meet us right where we are. We want to meet with You. I want to meet with You. Welcome to our little community! OPEN YOUR HEART IN A PRAYERFUL MODE. Today is Friday. Fridays are stretching days. Read on to find out what that means. We have been live since Monday. Is this format working for you? Tomorrow you will receive questions in an email. Please let us know what you think. Today's Passage: Matthew 6: 1-4 "1. Watch out, don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others. For you will lose your reward from your Father in Heaven. 2. When you give to someone in need, don't do as the hypocrites do - blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they will receive all the reward they will ever get. 3. But when you give to someone in need, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything will reward you." Matthew 6:1-4 NLT 1. Read from:
2. Invite God to join you and possibly re-read the verses. And now, let's stretch a bit. Ask God to give you the words from this verse that you need to hear today! What is their meaning, what is He saying, are you listening to what he is saying to you? Ask yourself these open ended questions: Do I_______? Who _____? Why do I_______? Will I_______? These are open questions. Are you drawn to the word give? The questions could be anything like the following: Go in your heart and mind and place yourself before God asking something like these? God, do I give? God, do I give enough? God, do I give too much, too little, too openly, not openly enough? God who do I give to? God who do I not give to? God, why do I give? God, why do I give to whom I give to? God, will I give_____? God, will I____? That is just using these questions and putting in the word give from the verse... You could also be called to the words: don't let the left hand know what the right is doing. God, do I let my left hand know what my right is doing? God, why do I ? God, will I? There is even the question you might ask God in your heart? God? What does that even mean, "don't let the left hand know what the right is doing"? 3. Please comment with your first name and last initial below. If you would like to testify to something God is doing in your life, please feel free to share. 4. Go today, and listen. Problems? Gratitude. Today's passage: 1 Peter 1: 21-25 "21. Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because He raised Christ from the dead and gave Him great glory. 22. You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all of your heart. 23. For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. 24. As the Scriptures say, "People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the LORD remains forever." And the Word is the Good News that was preached to you." 1 Peter 1:21-25 NLT 1.
