2.

Thank You for meeting me, LORD.
I welcome you into this place.
Please prepare my heart Jehovah.
Thank you for insight.

3.

7th strategy.
Repetitive Reading

  • Begin by getting your heart ready to receive the words that God has laid down for us on this page. Ask Him to give you what you need to hear. Ask Him to give you the mind of Christ to be able to remember this strategy and continue it throughout the day.
  • Read the passage completely. Ask God to give you one verse that resonates in your heart today.
  • Write the verse down on a pad of paper, sticky note, or even on your phone in notes or your calendar.
  • Pray and ask God to give you a number of times to repeat this verse throughout the day. Write that number underneath the verse.
  • Or ask Him if it would be better for you to read and repeat the verse three times and then do that again later in the day. Asking how many times to have this little repetitive session and writing that down under the verse.
  • Every time you repeat the verse mark a tally under the verse.
  • Do this throughout the day. Try to reach your set goal or above it.
  • At the end of the day attempt to speak the verse without looking at it.
  • Before bed repeat the verse again either rereading it off of the paper, or quoting it from memory. Either is a glory to God.
  • And remember, God gleans great pleasure when you stop and thank Him for being with your throughout your day.

Psalm 42.
1. As the deer longs for streams of water so I long for you, O God.
2. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
3. Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying "Where is this God of yours?"

4. My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

5. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God!
I will praise him again —my Savior and
6. my God!

Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you — even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar.
7. I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
8. But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.

9. "O God my rock," I cry, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?"
10. Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, "Where is this God of yours?"

11. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God!
I will praise him again — my Savior and my God!

Psalm 43.
1. Declare me innnocent, O God! Defend me against these ungodly people. Rescue me from these unjust liars.
2. For you are God, my only safe haven. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?
3. Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me.
Let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the place where you live.
4. There I will go to the altar of God, to God — the source of all my joy, I will praise you with my harp, O God, my God!

5. Why am i discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!
Psalm 42—43 NLT

29th Strategy.
Called to Evaluate Our Choices

  • Enter your time with the LORD in prayer.
  • Read the entire passage.
  • Does the passage call for an evaluation of choices made? If so, stop and re-read that section one time.
  • Continue through the entire passage.
  • After reading the passage through one time, go back and re-read the section calling for an evaluation.
  • Would the choices you are facing in your life today be similar to the choices in the passage.
  • Write them down on a sticky note, or underline them in your bible.
  • Whatever you are being prompted to evaluate, write it down. (This will be a great source of strength for years to come.)
  • Take these choices to the LORD. Ask Him to give you clarity on how to move forward.
  • Tell Him you desire to make wise choices and you know you need His guidance.
  • Ask God to broaden your vision for the passage.
  • Thank Him for His guidance and praise Him for His words.
  • (I encourage you to write down what God shows you.)

26. "But now, as to whether the dead will be raised  — haven't you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the god of Jacob,'
27. So he is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error."
28. One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

29. Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: 'Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD.
30. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all you soul, all your mind, and all your strength.'
31. The second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these.

32. The teacher of religious law replied, "Well said, Teacher You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other.
33. And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.

34. Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

2.

Thank You for meeting me, LORD.
I welcome you into this place.

3.

32nd Strategy.
Jahweh Tests
1. Stop, close out the world, pray for God to show Himself.
2. Often humanity flails against God and His ways.
3. Is there disobedience in the scripture that shows our faulty ways.
4. Is God preparing for a harder time?
5. Do the verses remind you to be strong and obey?
6. How can these verses help you in the world we live in?
7. Thank God for His presence.

15. When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people buying and selling animals for sacrifices. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves,
16. and he stopped everyone from using the temple as a marketplace.
17. He said to them, "The Scriptures declare, 'My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,'  but you have turned it into a den of thieves."

18. When the leading priests and teachers of religious law heard what Jesus had done, they began planning how to kill him. But they were afraid of him because the people were so amazed at his teaching.
19. That evening Jesus and the disciples left the city.

20. The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up.
21. Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, "Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!"

22. Then Jesus said to the disciples. "Have faith in God.
23. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.
24. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you've received it, it will be yours.
25. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too."

Mark 11:15-25 NLT

3.

33nd Strategy.
Someday We Will Understand
 1. Stop, listen to your heart beating.
2. Remind yourself, God is God, you are not.
3. Do you find the verses offensive?
4. Are you hurt by the violence, the sin, the pain of the story?
5. Do you read a verse or reference or even a story that just does not make sense to you? Or is there an action that Jesus, God, The Holy Spirit does in one of these that you can't understand a reason it is there?
6. As you ponder and search your heart, you might be surprised at something that is revealed deep within you.
7. However, our hearts cannot be trusted in matters of faith. We sometimes must take a step out whether it makes sense, feels good, or helps us. Faith is walking into trusting the God who IS, not the God we want Him to be.
8. When we come to this point. Ask God to reveal to you His heart. It might take years. But He will bring you to that point.
9. Close your eyes and thank Him for 'helping you in your unbelief.' (Mark 9:24)

12. The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.
13. He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit.
14. Then Jesus said to the tree, "May no one ever eat your fruit again!" And the disciples heard him say it.

3.

13th strategy.
Foreshadowing, Promises, and/or Fulfillment of Promises
  • Stop and pray.
  • Ask God to open your heart to hear what He is calling you to take away from your time together this day.
  • Take the time to reread this passage one time.
  • Can you find any foreshadowing of days to come?
  • Can you find any applications in your own life from the historical acts in this passage?
  • Can you find a charge given by God to honor certain happenings?
  • ... a promise made by God?
  • ...a promise fulfilled by God?
  • Meditate on one of these. Write it down in your journal for later reflection.
  • Thank God for His presence in your life right this moment.

1. As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead.
2. "Go into that village over there." he told them. "As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
3. If anyone asks, 'What are you doing?' just say, 'The Lord needs it and will return it soon.'
"

4. The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door.
5. As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, "What are you doing, untying that colt?"
6. They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it.
7. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and he sat on it.

8. Many in the crowd spsread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others spread leafy branches they had cut in the fields.
9. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,
"Praise God!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the LORD!
10. Blessings on the coming Kingdom of our ancestor David!

11. So Jesus ame to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left becuase it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples.

3.

6th strategy.
Cause and Effect
  • Begin by inviting God to show you what is the cause and effect hidden in these verses. Ask Him to show you nuggets of wisdom.
  • Read the passage completely.
  • Divide a piece of paper into two columns.
  • Title the first column Cause and the second column Effect
  • Reread the passage. This time ask if there are any instructions that are given that have a direct end result.
  • Write down the causes (in Cause column)and the effects (in the Effects column).
  • Do you find a pattern?
  • What are your thoughts?
  • Now as you wrap all these thoughts up in your mind. Stop and thank God for being with you this very day.

22. After Abimelech had ruled over Israel for three years,
23. God sent a spirit that stirred up trouble between Abimelech and the leading citizens of Shechem, and they revolted.
24. God was punishing Abimelech for murdering Gideon's seventy sons, and the citizens of Shechem for supporting him in this treachery of murdering his brothers.
25. The citizens of Shechem set an ambush for Abimelech on the hilltops and robbed everyone who passed that way. But someone warned Abimelech about their plot.

26. One day Gaal son of Ebed moved to Shechem with his brothers and gained the confidence of the leading citizens of Shechem.
27. During the annual harvest festival at Shechem, held in the temple of the local god, the wine flowed freely, and everyne began cursing Abimelech.
28. "Who is Abimelech?" Gaal shouted. "He's no true son of Shechem, so why should we be his servants? He's merely the son of Gideon, and this Zebul is merely his deputy. Serve the true sons of Hamor, the founder of Shechem. Why should we serve Abimelech?
29. If I were in charge here, I would get rid of Abimelech. I would say to him, 'Get some soldiers, and come out and fight!'"

30. But when Zebul, the leader of hte city heard what Gaal was saying, he was furious.
31. He sent messengers to Abimelech in Arumah, telling him, "Gaal son of Ebed and his brothers have come to live in Shechem, and now they are inciting the city to rebel against you.
32. Come by night with an army and hide out in the fields.
33. In the morning, as soon as it is daylight, attack the city. When Gaal and those who are with him come out against you, you can do with them as you wish."

34. So Abimelech and all his men went by night and split into four groups, stationing themselves around Shechem.
35. Gaal was standing at the city gates when Abimelech and his army came out of hiding.
36. When Gaal saw them, he said to Zabul, "Look, there are people coming down from the hilltops!"

Zebul replied, "It's just the shadows on the hills that look like men."

37. But again Gaal said, "No, people are coming down from the hills. And another group is coming down the road past the Diviners' Oak."

38. Then Zebul turned on him and asked "Now where is that big mouth of yours? Wasn't it you that said, 'Who is Abimelech, and why should we be  his servants? The men you mocked are right outside the city! Go out and fight them!"

39. So Gaal led the leading citizens of Shechem into battle against Abimelech.
40. But Abimelech chased him, and many fell along the road as they retreated to the city gate.
41. Abimelech returned to Arumah, and Zebul drove Gaal and his brothers out of Schechem.

42. The next day the people of Shechem went out into the fields to battle. When Abimelech heard about it,
43. he divided his men into three groups and set an ambush in the fields. When Abimelech saw the people coming out of the city, he and his men jumped up from their hiding places and attacked them.
44. Abimelech and his group stormed the city gate to keep the men of Shechem from getting back in, while Abimelech's other two groups cut them down in the fields.
45. The battle went on all day before Abimelech finally captured the city. He killed the people, leveled the city, and scattered salt all over the ground.

46. When the leading citizens who lived in the tower of Shechem heard what had happened, they ran and hid in the temple of Baal-berith.
47. Someone reported to Abimelech that the citizens had gathered in the temple.
48. So he led his forces to Mount Zalmon. He took an ax and chopped some branches from a tree, then put them on his shoulder. "Quick, do as I have done!" he told his men.
49. So each of them cut down some branches, following Abimelech's example. They piled the branches against the walls of the temple and set them on fire. So all the people who had lived in the tower of Shechem died — about 1,000 men and women.

50. Then Abimelech attacked the town of Thebez and captured it.
51. But there was a strong tower inside the town, and all the men and women — the entire population — fled to it. They barricaded themselves in and climbed up to the roof of the tower.
52. Abimelech followed them to attach the tower. But as he prepared to set fire to the entrance,
53. a woman on the roof dropped a millstone that landed on Abimelech's head and crushed his skull.

54. He quickly said to his young armor bearer, "Draw your sword and kill me! Don't let it be said that a woman killed Abimelech!" So the young man ran him through with his sword, and he died.
55. When Abimelech's men saw that he was dead, they disbanded and returned to their homes.

56. In this way, God punished Abimelech for the evil he had done against his father by murdering his seventy brothers.
57. God also punished the men of Shcchem for all their evil. So the curse of Jotham son of Gideon was fulfilled.
Judges 9:22-57 NLT

5th strategy.
A simple strategy: Building Blocks
  • Begin by asking God to join you in building into your heart what He would want you to build.
  • Read the passage completely
  • Read the passage again. With the second reading pause after each phrase/sentence and think about the phrase/sentence. Take the phrase/sentence in slowly.
  • You might want to reread the phrase/sentence until the meaning, or importance of the phrase/sentence really sinks in.
  • After reading each phrase/sentence at least once, sometimes more. Go back and reread the entire passage.
  • Do you find that the passage builds phrase/sentence upon phrase/sentence in importance? Why? or Why not?
  • What phrase/sentence do you find most important in the passage?
  • Thank God for this phrase/sentence and commit it to memory today.
  • Don't forget to thank God for being here today with you.

7. When Jotham heard about this, he climbed to the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted,

"Listen to me, citizens of Shechem! Listen to me if  you want God to listen to you!
8. Once upon a time the trees decided to elect a king. First they said to the olive tree, 'Be our king!'
9. But the olive tree refused, saying. 'Should I quit producing the olive oil that blesses both God and people, just to wave back and forth over the trees?'

10. "Then they said to the fig tree, 'You be our king!'
11. But the fig tree also refused, saying, 'Should I quit producing my sweet fruit just to wave back and forth over the trees?'

12. "Then they said to the grapevine, 'You be our king!'
13. But the grapevine also refused, saying, 'Should I quit producing the wine that cheers both God and people, just to wave back and forth over the trees?'

14. "Then all the trees finally turned to the thorn bush and said, 'Come, you be our king!'
15. And the thorn bush replied to the trees, 'If you truly want to make me your king, come and take shelter in my shade. If not,  let fire come out from me and devour the cedars of Lebanon.'"

16. Jotham continued, "Now make sure you have acted honorably and in good faith by making abimelech your king, and that you have done right by Gideon and all of his descendants. Have you treated him with the honor he deserves for all he accomplished?
17.  For he fought for you and risked his life when he rescued you from the Midianites.
18. But today you have revolted against my father and his descendants, killing his seventy sons on one stone. And you have chosen his slave woman's son, Abimelech, to be your king just because he is your relative.

19. "If you have acted honorably and in good faith toward Gideon and his descendants today, then may you find joy in Abimelech, and may he find joy in you.
20. But if you have not acted in good faith, then may fire come out from Abimelech and devour the leading citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo; and may fire come out from the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo and devour Abimelech!"

21. Then Jotham escaped and lived in Beer because he was afraid of his brother Abimelech.

2nd strategy
Meditation in
WORSHIP

  • Begin with asking God to open your heart to what He has for you to hear today.
  • Read a passage of the Scripture
  • Is a miracle in the passage? Is a relationship deepened in some way? Has God stepped in and shown His power,
  • Has he shown His discipline or even His protection or His end goal?
  • Has Jesus, lived life, shown love, or taught?
  • Whatever the passage holds that brings you an awareness of who He is, praise Him for that revelation.
  • Give Him glory and honor and praise. Thank Him for what He has given.
  • Think on these things. Ponder them. Reread the passage. Write about what you read. Pray! This is Worship!
  • Thank God for His presence this moment.

1. One day Gideon's son Abimelech went to Shechem to visit his uncles — his mother's brothers. He said to them and to the rest of his mother's family,
2. "Ask the leading citizens of Shechem whether they want to be ruled by all seventy of Gideon's son or by one man. And remember that I am your own flesh an blood!"

3. So Abimelech's uncles gave his message to all the citizens of Shechem on his behalf. And after listening to this proposal, the people of Shechem decided in favor of Abimelech because he was their relative.

1. Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will strike Pharaoh and the land of Egypt with one more blow. After that, Pharaoh will let you leave this country. In fact, he will be so eager to get rid of you that he will force you all to leave.
2. Tell all the Israelite men and women to ask their Egyptian neighbors for articles of silver and gold."
3. (Now the LORD had caused the Eyptians to look favorably on the people of Israel. And Moses was considered a very great man in the land of Egypt, respected by Pharaoh's officials and the Egyptian people alike.)

4. Moses had announced to Pharaoh, "This is what the LORD says: At midnight tonight I will pass through the heart of Egypt.
5. All the firstborn sons will die in every family in Egypt, from the oldest son of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne, to the oldest son of his lowliest servant girl who grinds the flour. Even the firstborn who grinds the flour. Even the firstborn of all the livestock will die,
6. Then a loud wail will rise throughout the land of Egypt, a wail like no one has heard before or will ever hear again.
7. But among the Israelites it will be so peaceful that not even a dog will bark. Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction beween the Egyptians and the Israelites.
8. All the officials of Egypt will run to me and fall to the ground before me. 'Please leave!' they will beg. 'Hurry! And take all your followers with you. Only then will I go!" Then, burning with anger, Moses left Pharaoh.

9. Now the LORD had told Moses earlier, "PHaraoh will not listen to you, but then I will do even more mighty miracles in the land of Egypt."
10. Moses and Aaron performed these miracles in Pharah's presence, but the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he wouldn't let the Issraelites leave the country.
Exodus 11:1-10 NLT

21. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Lift your hand toward heaven, and the land of Egypt will be covered with a darkness so thick you can feel it."
22. So Moses lifted his hand to the sky, and a deep darkness covered the entire land of Egpt for three days.
23. During all that time the people could not see each other, and no one moved. But there was light as usual where the people of Israel lived.

24. Finally, Pharaoh called for Moses, "Go and worship the LORD," he said. "But leave your flocks and herds here. You may even take your little ones with you."

25. "No," Moses said, "You must provide us with animals for sacrifices and burnt offering to the LORD our God.
26. All our livestock must go with us, too; not a hoof can be left behind. We must choose our sacrifices for the LORD our God from among these animals. And we won't know how we are to worship the LORD until we get there."

27. But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart once more, and he would not let them go.
28. "Get out of here!" Pharaoh shouted at Moses. "I'm warning you. Never come back to see me again! The day you see my face, you will die!"

29. "Very well," Moses replied. "I will never see your face again."
